The one time it's OK to (favorably) judge a book by its cover

I interrupt this irregularly scheduled programming to yap about phase 1 of the Die Hot With A Vengeance promo circuit. Previously there were many, many sub-phases that involved the writing of the proposal, the selling of the proposal, and the writing of the manuscript (several times over), to get to this initial phase. In the official legal language, it is called “manuscript acceptance and approval” but in practice, it is the cover reveal and pre-order announcement. So.

There it is! In all its red, purple, and yellow glory! I specifically requested that the cover look like a 70s pulp novel, which took several iterations from the Harper Collins design dept in varying degrees of marketability. I am VERY pleased with what we landed on. Dare I say, they nailed it.

An appropriate response to seeing this cover for the first time.

It comes out July 9, 2024, which is a week after my 38th birthday. I only feel a little weird about that, mostly having to do with how this is not at all how I imagined my life would be at 38, and also 38 is such a random in-between number to be. Like, who cares?

(That’s only a half-lie though because truthfully I had not done a whole lot imagining how my life would be. I was mostly busy trying to figure out how to live in the now, fielding opportunities as they came, and I don’t hate how it turned out.)

Anyway, I’ve already made two unnecessarily long social media videos about this for due diligence, but I can get more into the gritty-nitty here.

But luckily and just in time, I have decided to microdose taking myself somewhat seriously, beginning with the things I have worked very hard on¹ in earnest (because how can I expect anyone to give a shit about what I do if I don’t?).
